As told by Satvik's founder Shukl'acharya
While there are many website dedcated to Babaji, given below is what was understood by me.
I was in search for my master, being spiritually inclined since a young age. By the age of sixteen, I had explored many renowned spiritual centres in India, including Ramakrishna Mission, ISKCON, Aurobindos'.
At that time, a very old family friend, Shri Naveen Chandra Joshi, who hailed from Almora, in present day Uttarakhand, met me. Shree Joshi too was on a spiritual path from a young age and had been close to many masters like Neemkaroli Baba, Nantin Baba and was initiated by Anandmayi Ma herself.
Shree Joshi with the blessings of so many master saints, fulfilled the search for his master when he saw Babaji in 1973'.
Babaji reappearance in 1970' caused quite a stir to the devotees in the Himalayan area. Many found it difficult to believe that the ancient described variously as Shiva incarnation, Trymbak Baba, Haiadkahan wale Baba, Mahavatar Baba had indeed re appeared. The devotees approached Nantin Baba the eminent saint in the region for clarity.
Nantin Baba had been in the region for many decades and has a huge following of devotees. Nantin Baba went to see Babaji in a village called Surya Devi at the foothills of Himalayas in Nainital district. On seeing Babaji, Nantin Baba prostrated to Babaji and worshipped Babaji like one worships a deity. This confounded the throng of devotees, as Nantin Baba in physical age looked in his seventies, while Babaji looked like someine in his late teens.
On being asked Nantin Baba replied that Babaji is very old while Nantin Baba is a young lad in comparison. Nantin Baba further said on being asked, if Babaji is indeed the same old Haidakhan Baba, Nantin Baba replied that what old and new, Babaji himself is Haidakhan Baba and that this unique appearance is for a few years only.
On hearing of Babaji, I was inspired to see Babaji. Even as a teenager when I saw Babaji in 1980. I realized that Babaji is more than a personal master. He is the Jagadguru, (master to the whole world)
I consider myself extremely fortunate and blessed to have been under Babaji's ' training', ( the word used by Babaji to call the duration of my stay with Babaji in Haidakhan) Though Babaji drew the curtains on his divine play on 14th February 1984', his presence, guidance and training goes on within me.
Babaji appeared in a cave at the base of holy mount Hairakhand Kailash in summer of 1970. He is referred as Hairakhan wale Baba or the one residing at Hairakhan. Despite the remote location, which till a few years ago required hours of walking to reach, thousands thronged to have a glimpse of Babaji. Babaji established a few ashrams and inspired many to set up similar centres. He is considered by his followers to be Lord Shiva himself. Many believe that he is none other than Mahavtar Babaji mentioned by Shri Yogananada in his book Autobiography of a yogi.
Babaji performed his human divine play till 1984 February, when he took Mahasamadhi. Of course to his followers and devotees he is very much present at all times and everywhere.
Babaji guided people in what was most suited yoga to them. Most people were encouraged for a combination of Karma Yoga, i.e. carrying out work with detachment and chanting divine names; with bhakti (devotion) yoga
Babaji has been able to inspire and provide strength to all sincere seekers, encouraging them to transcend all kinds of fear. He taught the assembled people from all over the world the true meaning of ‘Vasudeva Kutumbakam’ ( all living beings are a single joint family). Leaving aside prejudices, people of all walks of life worked and stayed together. No distinction based on caste or class was observed.
Babaji taught that the only true religion is ‘manavta’ ( to be human – see the same spirit in all)
The way of this religion is TRUTH* SIMPLICITY* & LOVE* and practice is KARMA YOGA.
*Truth – to say what one thinks, to do what one says. The complete coordination amongst thought, speech and deed.
*Simplicity – to be what one is, without addition or subtraction.
*Love – to feel the same spirit in all living beings and serve them without expectations.
Babaji gave the highly powerful yet simple mantra 'Aum Namaha Shivaya' to the devotees. By repetition of this mantra the devotees have experienced an opening of their heart chakra and become receptive to spiritual truths and love. Babaji had mentioned that many revolutions have been done in the past, but they do not succeed for long as till there is jealousy and hatred in people's hearts, no progress is possible. The revolution inspired by Babaji is already showing visible progress as devotees experience love and share it overpowering pettiness jealousy and hatred.
Babaji said that we should love and serve the whole humanity as every sinner has a future and that there is no saint without a past. So why to discriminate and be selective in our giving.
